Who is The Place Institute, and what does it do?

The Place Institute is an international nonprofit organization registered in Mexico as an authorized donee, with full legal capacity to receive national and international donations. We operate in compliance with Mexican fiscal regulations and under a transparent governance and accountability framework.

Internationally, The Place Institute is formally recognized and validated through multiple due diligence and equivalency mechanisms. We hold 501(c)(3) equivalency status in the United States through CAF America, Benevity, and NGOsource, enabling U.S.-based foundations, corporations, and individuals to support our work with confidence. Our DUNS number is 951791919, allowing us to engage formally with international donors, multinationals, and global institutions.

The Place Institute provides platforms, programs, and technical expertise to support the creation, strengthening, and long-term care of places. We work globally with local governments, civil society organizations, foundations, and community groups to advance place-based approaches that improve public life, social cohesion, and local capacity.

Our work includes technical consulting, the design and implementation of globally adaptable programs, and direct support to local actors in the planning, activation, and governance of public and shared spaces. All initiatives are grounded in participation, local knowledge, and institutional strengthening.

To sustain and scale impact, The Place Institute operates through a global network of collaborators and a clear Resource Management Framework. This framework ensures transparent and equitable beneficiary selection, responsible allocation of donor resources, close supervision of project implementation, and continuous impact evaluation. This approach allows us to maintain accountability while expanding support to communities across regions.
